Bruce Lee: Jeet Kune Do (2001)
Member Rating:
Arguably the best and most well-known martial artist of all time, Bruce Lee developed his own fighting method known as Jeet Kune Do, a revolutionary and controversial new form utilizing no fixed positions. Jeet Kune Do might have been impossible to teach to newcomers to martial arts after Lee's death if not for programs like this, in which the man himself teaches the basic tenants of his martial art to the viewer. This program includes Lee's demonstration of his punching method, kicking techniques, movement combat principles, and his own explanation of the philosophy behind Jeet Kune Do and how it can be applied to life. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

Any real Bruce Lee fan should enjoy this film. I did not find it entertaining, but it was very informative.

This is excellent. It gives future generations the chance to understand Bruce Lee's genius, and his rejection of traditional martial arts power schemes, to embrace the zen like philosophy of self discovery in Jeet Kune Do. You actually get the advice of two grand masters of JKD, with a long narrative from Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee's student and highest ranked JKD instructor, after the main documentary. (Three if you include Brandon Lee's words, too) Bruce Lee's "Way of the Intercepting Fist", known as the 'style' without a style, is more of a Martial Philosophy. It allows the individual to learn a broad spectrum of Martial Arts, to maximize their individual fighting potential, and adapt the best of all styles to their physical body. Rejecting traditional dictatorships and top down control, JKD proposes that each person learn first to understand themselves and their physical and mental strengths, while at the same time mastering several fighting techniques from many styles.
