This is excellent Mahler. I've seen the Berlin Phil live with Rattle conducting; it was a life-changing experience. It was sound, expression, and artistic generosity unmatched. This Mahler 5 is a fine performance, though not the strongest effort from Rattle. When I saw him conduct the Brahms Requiem live, he was modest, controlled, and expressive. In this, he's compulsive, demonstrative, and even frantic at times. It often suits the music, and sometimes doesn't. Nonetheless, the Berlin Phil plays amazingly well. Enjoy.
