    This is an above average thriller with two "classic" scenes (the dental "torture" scene and Szell's trek thru the diamond district in NYC). Both Hoffman and Olivier are super solid and I found Roy Scheider was a really pleasant surprise. With all of that though, I thought the final showdown was a bit too dull, cliche, and anticlimactic. Worth watching for the two leads, but just short of perfection. Is it safe?

    Laurence Olivier playing the underground Nazi dentist does a solid job on his performance. William Devane does a good job as a supporting actor, and Roy Scheider does a decent job as well. Dustin Hoffman is okay, but not nearly as good as when he did "All The President's Men", made the same year as this movie, a flick where Dustin Hoffman was absolutely SUPERB !! I think the music scores for both of these movies was done by the same person, too. Pretty good movie, overall - but the gal that played the German girl did a less-than-believable acting job - which sort of hurt the movie a lot to me.
