Synopsis of Vote for Them

According to BBC publicity, the three-part miniseries Vote for Them was based on a true story. The setting was Egypt in 1943, during the period in which the British held off the Axis forces in the Middle East. Sick and tired of unfair and often idiotic treatment by their officers, a group of off-duty British soldiers set up their own ad-hoc government -- not to mention a parliament and debating society. As this bid for democracy within the ranks grew in popularity, the "brass" naturally sought out ways to nip it in the bud. Vote for Them originally aired in 1989. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi
