VIOLENT, BRUTAL, SAVAGE, BEAUTIFUL, ROMANTIC, EMOTIONAL AND RAW!! This is by far one of Umberto Lenzi's best films. Although the film has about as much gore as Jess Franco's disappointing 1980 film Cannibals (not including animal cruelty.) it delivers on a completely different level. Lenzi said himself "The film features cannibalism but it's not a central topic." there is only one scene of cannibalism and if you're thinking what's the point well it's this. Lenzi made a masterpiece with true emotion, a brilliant script, beautiful locations and amazing acting. It's the first ever cannibal film and a landmark for the genre. this isn't like his other cannibal films because it replaces gore with brutal tension and raw emotion just like Ruggero Deodato's masterpiece Last Cannibal World (1977). Unfortunately there is alot of animal cruelty but what are you going to do? If you consider yourself a fan of the cannibal genre don't miss Umberto Lenzi's Man From Deep River.

This movie offers nothing at all. It is boring, the acting is god-awful, you feel nothing but contempt for all of the characters because of their unhuman treatment of other people and living creatures. Keep in mind all of the animal deaths in this movie were real. The movie occured before current laws protecting animals in films existed. They were killed and tortured specifically for this movie. I hated it!
