Member Rating:
Gaspar Noé's Irreversible utilizes the same storytelling technique used by Christopher Nolan in Memento and Harold Pinter in Betrayal. Consisting of about a dozen scenes, all shot in single takes, Irreversible charts a disturbing night in the life of Marcus (Vincent Cassel), but presents the events in reverse chronological order. The audience eventually learns how the beautiful Alex (Cassel's real-life partner Monica Bellucci) is involved. The film opens with a violent altercation at a gay sex club and works backward to explain how and why the violence occurred. The actors improvised the vast majority of the dialogue starting from a four-page story outline. Irreversible was screened in competition at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, All Movie Guide

Delicate viewers beware -- the violence is graphic, many of the visuals can be a challenge (and can make you dizzy), and to say it isn't a 'feel good' movie is a major understatement. It is not a movie to be 'enjoyed' or maybe even one to like, but it is a movie that is compelling and thoughtful. I think it is more than worth renting.

The murder and rape scene were tough to watch but it was a well done movie. Original and with many ironic scenes. I think its worth watching but its not for the weak at heart. If all you ever watch is the typical Hollywood stuff you will not be able to stomach this. Also its in reverse order so that helps figure out the movie.

Amidsts all the reviews of gore and the brutal rape scene, I liked this movie. The story is told in reverse, much like the movie momento. The jerky camera movements is very representative of what the characters are feeling. What makes this movie so unique is how through the brutality and pain you witness, that you don't come away watching this movie sick to the pit of your stomach. At least i didn't...good movie...
