Terror is lurking online in this thriller directed by William Malone, who also helmed the 1999 remake of House on Haunted Hill. Mike Reilly (Stephen Dorff) is a NYPD detective who has been assigned to look into a string of murders which have taken place in Manhattan, with Terry Houston (Natascha McElhone), a researcher from the city Department of Health, lending her assistance whether Reilly likes it or not. Reilly discovers that all four victims have one thing in common -- they were all men who logged on to the same Internet website exactly 48 hours before they were killed. It seems the website features a sexy woman offering kinky fun to those who enter her domain, but clicking the wrong icon takes users on a journey into fear. Reilly decides the only way to find out the truth is to head into the website and find out what follows for the next two days -- if he can make it out alive. Fear dot com also stars Stephen Rea, Jeffrey Combs, and Udo Kier. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I've seen this movie compared to, The Ring and that's fair enough. The premise of both movies are similar. The Ring has a couple of very creepy moments that make the movie memorable. Other than that, it's a long boring ride through dullsville. Fear Dot Com doesn't have those stick in your mind moments. But, it is not boring and has a fantastic visual style. If you have to have your hand held by a linear plotline, then skip this movie. If you like dark, moody atmosphere and a feeling of "all hope is lost" in your horror. Then rent this movie. It is very surreal and very entertaining. The pacing is fine and the story holds your attention. Yes, it feels a little like director William Malones version of, House On Haunted Hill. But, Fear Dot Com is much better. It has the visual feel and tone of, Seven. But on the whole, Fear Dot Com is not like any other horror I've seen. I really liked it.

I was surprised to see this movie had such a low rating on here. to this day I will still say this is one of the best horror-suspense-thrillers that has come out in the past 5 or so years. I absolutley love this movie, the way it was written, the way it plays out, the way it messes with your head, the camera angles throughout the film, the suspense, everything. if you like movies along the lines of Saw and Saw 2 then I'd definitely recommend this movie. The Ring was pretty much crap, and comparing this movie to The Ring is an insult. watch this with an open mind (I thought this movie was going to be crap before I saw it too) and trust me it will be better than what you expected. I guess a majority of the people out there prefer the same PG-13 wanna-be thriller movies that are geared towards middle schoolers than actually seeing real orignal films.

I, too, am surprised at all the low ratings for this movie. I really enjoyed it, it was scary and the storyline was creepy, intriguing, twisted and even sad (kind of like how The Ring was sad, but this one is much scarier and more fast-paced). The acting was a C+ but won't make your stomach turn. Definitely good as horror flicks go, and worth a watch if you are a fan of horror.
