The story line isn't connected to the series but definitely has a life of it's own. The art work is considerably upgraded. I would like watching the moving solely for the quality of the animation. If you've never seen the show before, this movie will definitely entice you. The story line is very effective in hitting action high points with enough dialog not to be totally lost.

It was good, but there wasn't much character development at all. It was also kind of confusing, it was difficult deciphering who was on what side and what each side's goal was. But overall, it was a decent movie. I'll probably watch it again someday and possibly even by it eventually.

This movie is neither a sequel or pre-quel to the series that aired on fox kids network a few years ago. I reccomend that you see the series first since this movie only an alternate version of the series crammed into about 2 hours. The Movie is excellent, It has great effects and characters. It follows the journey of a highly deppressed teenager named Hitomi that has repeated visions of a far away land and a boy king named Van. She is finally thrusted into their world and helps Van discover how to use an ancient weapon called the "Escaflowne". While there, She struggles with her feelings of loneliness and sadness and finds happiness in her new found freinds there. Hitomi helps Van with a war that has begun in their time and soon realises how important she really is. The Movie is fun and full of action but does move a little fast and is hard to understand if havnt seen the series.
