I love old war movies. I do not like this movie. Yes it is a war movie, but this is a boring one with non-memorable characters, dialogue or drama. Story is about a transport ship (woohoo-- can't you just see yourself getting excited about a transport ship war story?) that tries to become, under the hands of a "mean" captain, the best transport ship in the navy. Yawn. Skip this one unless you really like sub-par WWII movies.
