J.S. Bach: Brandenberg Concertos (2000)
Member Rating:
This program features a performance of the complete Brandenburg Concertos written by Johann Sebastian Bach. The Brandenburg Concertos remain fresh and popular with the public today even though they were written over 250 years ago. Wars were being fought, and Bach developed his chamber music to accommodate the dearth of musicians at court. Within the limited structure of the small ensemble Bach created brilliant music, full of sound. The Concertos are performed by the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter, Rovi

The playing here is quite good ... for period instruments. This is a conductorless ensemble, but conductors are rarely needed for the Brandenburg concerti. The setting and cinematography are a little odd, but not to any real detriment. In the balance, this is an interesting and worthwhile music video, though I found myself wanting some Mahler afterward.

An outstanding performance on original instruments with quality visual editing that always focuses on the action. BBC#2 featured one of the finest (and most inanimate) trumpet virtuosos I've ever seen.
