I loved Katie Tippel. It was a great story and I enjoyed the movie being spoken in Dutch. I was raised in a Dutch family and it gave me the chance to practice my understanding of the language.
Verhoeven's a great director who just doesn't fit the critic's mold of who that should be - so he routinely get slammed for being visionary, provocative and highly entertaining. (Um... kinda like Hitchcock used to be?) Here's YET ANOTHER little-known gem from his early years. My only crit is it's a bit episodic but that's 'cause the source material was a loose collection of memoirs by Katie herself. Way under-rated at 3 stars!
