In the generic Canadian suburb of Bailey Downs live Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and Brigitte (Emily Perkins), 15-year-old sisters committed to introversion, menstruation anxiety, and terminal misanthropy. Three years late for their first period, they spend their time staging gruesome death scenes for their own amusement, amidst the willful ignorance of their relentlessly perky mother (Mimi Rogers). On the night Ginger finally gets her period, the sisters are attacked in the woods by a ferocious creature that may have some connection to "The Beast of Bailey Downs," a predator currently disemboweling its way through the local dog population. The girls survive the attack, and Ginger's wounds heal quickly, but her attitude grows even more bizarre, as hair sprouts from her scars and a tail grows from her spine. Adding to the terror, she starts dating boys. A panicked Brigitte forces herself to befriend Sam (Kris Lemche), the high school pot supplier, whose brand of ganja may be the only cure for Ginger's troubling ailment. ~ Rebecca Flint Marx, Rovi

it was so amazing it scared the CRAP out of me and it had some good special effects in it. Plus Ginger was super scary looking during the transformation scene.

If *Twilight* is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, *Ginger Snaps* is a metaphor for the horrors of puberty: a new familiarity with blood which shows up every lunar cycle, the impulse for destruction, the growth of unwanted hair, the increasing estrangement from your well-meaning but clueless folks, and the uncanny feeling like you're turning into a freak. This movie combines episodes of true horror and disgust (see Ginger's growing tail), elements of mystery in Brigitte's quest to find a cure, and startling moments of comedy. For a movie without any discernible CGI (which works much to its benefit), the special effects (particularly make-up and puppetry) are brilliant. *Ginger Snaps* is a must-see for monster movie fans, and a good horror treat for anyone else.

this has to be one of my favorite movies ever. it doesnt really fit in the catergory of "horror" but its a good film. its basically a tale of two death obsessed teens coming face to face with their obsession. this movie was comical, sad, and exciting at times. i loved it.
