I've been a Churchill fan all my life and remember his speeches during the 2nd world war when they were showed in the cinema..my father called him a warmonger as many did in the early days, late thirties in this country. However this film is a marvelous tribute to the man and his incredible steadfastness in winning the minds and hearts of his countrymen to defeat the Nazi onslaught. The many films characterizing Churchill exist, but the one I like the best is Churchill, the Wilderness Years 1928-1939...Robert Hardy does a splendid adaptation of the man and also the Gathering Storm with Albert Finney doing a magnificent job of portraying the man. 41/2 stars. PS: I had the good fortune in actually seeing Mr. Churchill and his wife on the steps of Middlesex Hospital in the summer of 1961 when I was a teacher in London for two years.
