This made-for-cable drama was adapted from the true story of the only exorcism sanctioned by the Catholic church to be performed in America in the 20th century. Father Bowdern (Timothy Dalton) is a Jesuit priest and military veteran still dealing with the emotional traumas of World War II as he tends to his flock in St. Louis in 1949. A strange case comes to Bowdern's attention -- a boy named Robbie who has strange markings on his body and appears to be under the influence of some otherworldly spirit. Robbie's family believes the child has been possessed by a demon, and in time Bowdern agrees. After receiving the consent of the Vatican, Bowdern attempts the torturous process of casting out the demon, which proves to be as much a test of his own powers as those of the devil. Possessed also stars Piper Laurie, Christopher Plummer, and Henry Czerny. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Possessed is a decent movie for TV, but as Possession movies go, it can't touch the Exorcist. I enjoyed the story from it's supposed "based on a true story" angle. The acting was good for the most part also. For a TV movie there is a ton of the F-bomb dropped. Beyond that, it's pretty much disposable. The corny special effects are really distracting. It can also be slow moving. The thing I didn't like is the ending. It's the big finish and time for the last exorcism try. The regular priest clothing, crosses, and holy water aren't enough. The priests have the long epic slow motion walk down a hallway wearing the white long robes with giant crosses in tow. Because a bigger cross is all you need to make an exorcism work better. It's insulting and cheesy.

is this a comedy? lol there are scenes that seem deliberately funny... I expected a scary flick and they made a mockeryn out of this terrifying true story.

I was mixed up with the music, sometimes sounded like it was a funny movie, then the acting was not good at all. The drama was boring and at times I thought about stopping the movie and go to bed
