If you like Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins, you should enjoy this quiet yet interesting movie that spans a multi year, long distance friendship. Both actors run true to form. The movie is not action packed or fast paced, but is still very enjoyable.

For those of us who delight in reading such as myself, this is a treasure. A different kind of "romance" -- but moreso of a transcontinental friendship bound together strongly through decade by a shared love of books. Very interesting as well to see Dame Judi Dench in an early role in her mid to late 30's probably. Hopkins is dashing in his non-fussy way as usual, and Anne Bancroft is a delight. Great commentary type film spanning the post WWII era through the 60's to early 70's.

This is a film for anyone who loves books and longs to have a relationship defined by the charm of distance. I did wonder about your warning "unsuitable for children," however. There's not a word or deed in this film that a kid could not watch.
