Member Rating:
Sorority sisters are frighteningly plucked off one by one in this low-budget horror film by Mark Rosman. Katherine (Kathryn McNeil) is a serious-minded, thinking woman whose intelligence is about to stand her in good stead when events turn dark and murderous. She and the more evil-minded Vicki (Eileen Davidson), along with five other women, cannot believe it when their housemother forbids them to throw a big party on June 19th. As a response, the sorority women drown her in the swimming pool. One would think another date might have been negotiated. What they do not know is that the 19th marks the birthday of a very unusual offspring, born to the housemother 20 years earlier in an experimental procedure that left much to be desired. Apparently this son does not appreciate the murder of his mother, and mayhem begins from that point onward, and onward, and onward until the final climactic moment arrives at last. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

Although The House on Sorority Row can't be compared to the classics of the horror genre, it still holds up very well. Compared to most 80's slashers, this one rises high above with its smart writing (for this type of movie anyway), good acting, and decent story. This movie was obviously heavily influenced by Black Christmas (which definitely isn't a bad thing) although it's a bit more fast paced and has a tad of gore thrown into the mix. And it does tend to get suspenseful at times, especially towards the end. This one's definitely worth a look if you're a slasher fan.

One of the 80's horror movies that gets lost among the masses from that era. Not a great movie, but a good one. The killer isn't necessarily a surprise, but the way the story unfolds makes the scenario somewhat plausible. The murders aren't gorey and the movie isn't necessarily scarey. It is interesting and a decent watch. There's only two bits of T&A, which is surprising for 80's slasher horror. The last 20 minutes is when it really gets good. That's when the last girl is used to bait the killer. A definite watch for horror fans. Give, Happy Birthday To Me a try. Or, for a real sorority classic watch, Black Christmas. Black Christmas is the movie that influenced a ton of others (Scream, Scream 2, When A Stranger Calls and a slew of others) and it's still the best.

Blood: 1 1/2 Cheese Factor: 5 Acting: 2 Overall: 3 This is definetly an under rated 80's slasher film, although I must say if you're looking for gore or scares look elsewhere. Though if you're a fan of the genre you may enjoy this film especially if you compare this film to some of the 'sorority slashers' out there. Worth a rent!
