UFC 9: Motor City Madness (1996)
Member Rating:
The UFC faced some controversy in Detroit -- stop the madness or let the fight go on? As evidenced by this video, the fight more than went on with the addition of a few rules to keep the carnage from getting out of hand -- out of hand by UFC standards. Don "The Predator" Frye returns to fight with Amaury Bitetti, and their conflict doesn't disappoint. This installment's Superfight takes place between Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. ~ Leslie Birdwell, Rovi

At UFC 9 there was a monumental build up for the Shamrock Sevren fight, which was about the most boring 30 minutes or so that you could spend watching a fight. The other fights were good, with one ending suddenly and quickly and all but one ending cause of a cut or something broke. This is a nice disk to watch some of the "legends" contend, and to be able to tell exactly how far the fighters in todays game has come in training, endurance, toughness and how much better it is now, than then.

I saw this event live in Detroit it sucked then! No closed fist punching to the head and the fights had to be stopped if the fighter was bleeding, it still sucked when I watched it again !

This is an intereesting trip down memory lane, but it is not nearly as good as I had hoped. If you are only familiar with the UFC since the days of ultimkate fighter then you will be disapointed I think. This old school UFC was not nearly as entertaining as it is currently. The level of comentary is appalingly bad. Joe Rogan actually knows MMA and is great at describing the action and why fighters are doing whqat they are doing. In this they don't have a clue and stumble around like idiots. Even the fights selected are not very good fights. There is much more skill in the UFC currently.
