Although yes the commentary is bad at times this is a great introduction into the magic of the UFC. No rules except no biting, groin kicks or something. I will be renting ALL of these!

Because I've only been watching UFC and WEC since January 2007, I decided to rent this DVD to see the genesis of the sport. Wow! This is a great rent if you're new to MMA fighting. As you watch this DVD you can come to understand the reasoning behind weight classes and why the sport has evolved in the way it has. It also gives an awesome example of how important grappling is to this sport.

If you want an introduction to MMA watch something after UFC 40. This was enjoyable in that it showed Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock, two greats in the UFC, and it shows the roots of the UFC. The fights aren't great. The announcing is laughable and annoying. But you do also get a good idea of how powerful Gracie Jiu Jitsu is and to a lesser extent Shootfighting.
