There are some performances which should not be recorded.

This is one of my favorite opera's, but because I've never liked Pavrotti, I opted for this performance. But Dennis O'Neill really lacks in vocal depth and acting. It's not that he didn't have a nice voice, just nowhere near what I'd have liked. Luciana really shines, though. Her part is what makes this production (contrary to Studer). And the production values, although spare, are very artistic. The final scene, however was a great disappointment. What should have been magnificent and heartwrenching, grand opera came off as a tinny TV-movie. Heaven knows why this is rated as 4-1/2 stars.
