Six years after Dumb and Dumber, Jim Carrey reunited with Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly for this anarchic comedy with a hint of romance. Charlie (Carrey) is a good-natured Rhode Island state trooper who likes helping people. But years of internalizing his frustrations about his work and his family have caused Charlie to develop an alter ego: Hank, an abusive, violent, sexually compulsive police officer. Charlie can keep Hank at bay with medication, but just barely. When Irene (Renee Zellweger) finds herself in legal trouble through a series of misunderstandings involving her ex-boyfriend, Charlie must escort her on a long drive to New York for questioning. After Charlie loses his medication, he and Hank wind up vying for her affections: Charlie wants Irene to marry him, while Hank has more brutal intentions. Me, Myself, and Irene also features Chris Cooper, Robert Forster, and Jessica Harper, as well as Anthony Anderson, Mongo Brownlee, and Jerod Mixon as Charlie's rotund, African-American sons. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

One of my all-time favorite comedies! Jim Carey is hysterical in this film and the storyline is just outrageously funny. Don't miss this one! Warning: lots of sexual jokes and humor, so it's not for the kids. Enjoy.....

I am in the minority on this one, and that's fine. It is very, very difficult to write comedy without vulgarity, and while I do not have a problem with the occasional vulgar joke, I want the joke to be funny. I thought Dumb and Dumber was funny. This movie, however, was not humorous, and I suspect those who found it to be are males in a particular age group who find anything to do with bodily functions to be funny, whether it really is or not.

Now, this five-star rating will not help people who do not appreciate the Farrelly Brothers' brand of humor (i.e., There's Something about Mary, and Dumb and Dumber.) This one has a few sight gags that are very crude and very ADULT in nature, so do NOT have teens or younger in the room if you don't want to answer some uncomfortable questions or have them flee. There's also one hysterical pee stunt that will have you crossing your own legs so you don't pee yourself. Carey's one of the few comedians who can get a handle on it (pun intended, once you see the movie.) Your face may hurt a little from laughing continuously, but it's a small price to pay. (You may also find yourself avoiding watermelons in the grocery store--you MUST watch the deleted scenes to get this one!) It's rude, it's crude, and you'll wonder why you didn't see this movie earlier. Oh, yeah, Cam Neely makes a good Connecticut Highway Patrolman.
