In this science fiction thriller, a spaceship is transporting a disparate group of people to a far-away galactic outpost called New Mecca. Mechanical failures cause the craft to crash-land on an abandoned planet that has three suns and no night. The only member of the crew to survive is junior pilot Carolyn Fry (Radha Mitchell), while the passengers who climb from the wreckage include a police officer (Cole Hauser) and the prisoner he's transporting, Riddick (Vin Diesel). As Fry and the other survivors survey the abandoned dwellings of the desert world while trying to decide what to do next, one of them is killed by a mutant creature living in an abandoned mining site. The vicious and bloodthirsty mutants, who live underground, have killed all previous inhabitants of the planet; they cannot stand sunlight, but research reveals that the planet has a total eclipse every 22 years, and the latest one is due any moment. Pitch Black was directed by David N. Twohy, who also made the sci-fi cult item, The Arrival. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Pitch Black is a combination of humor, action, sci-fi and horror all playing on your fear of what goes bump in the 'dark'. This movie was shot in two extremes, first it's unbelievably bright, then you discover what occurs when the lights go out. The sound is this movie is awesome too. This is a must see in a dark room. Also check out the whole trilogy, there's a special release anime feature few know about. The icing on the cake with this movie, the star of the feature is HOT HOT HOT!

Pitch Black may be the single most underated picture of any sort. The film is downright fantastic. Vin Diesel is surprisingly terrific as Riddick, the character that gives the film it's punch. The cast as a whole is great, and every character has enough texture to them to make them relatable in some fashion. But Pitch Black has no bones about what it wants to be; it is a science fiction film about people running from giant mosquitos. It's not only a wink to classic sci fi, but it's just about as much fun as one can have at a movie.

Decent story with decent acting. Diesel once again plays a tough guy character faced with impossible odds of surviving in an inhospitable environment... his niche. Vin Diesel fans will not be disappointed.
