Campbell Scott stars in this zany send-up of '50s body-snatching, alien invasion flicks. Scott plays Dr. Karel Lamonte, a pipe-smoking atomic scientist fresh from the Atomic Academy, who finds himself in the small town of Exceptional Vista -- situated somewhere between Fetus and New Imbroglio -- just before a large meteor strikes the local TV tower. Does this herald the beginning of a bizarre alien invasion? The town is littered with unusual characters: Sandy (Fiona Loewi) has an unnervingly close relationship with her brother, Guy (Tom Everett Scott); the town's sole policeman (Hardee T. Lineham) seems more interested in spanking Sandy than in solving crimes; and the mayor (Bernard Behrens) is a religious fanatic who claims that the aliens were sent from God to punish us for watching TV. When freshly gnawed-upon corpses start appearing at the edge of town, Dr. Lamonte responds like any other red-blooded atomic scientist: he bathes with a naked, inflatable likeness of himself. Top of the Food Chain was screened at the 1999 Vancouver Film Festival. ~ Jonathan Crow, Rovi

I take back my previous review, as it looks like the 5th time was the charm. They now have this hilarious, campy Sci-Fi feature available. You should definitely give it a try if you like this style of film...

I'm a big 50s sci-fi fan but usually can't get into spoofs - ie: Attack of the Killer Tomatoes/Killer Klowns, etc. There's way too much 'winking at the audience' for me and this falls in that trap. If you want a good drive-in spoof try "Lost Skeleton of Cadavera" or better yet, demand the originals! But Fiona Loewi is both funny and hot... wish she did more movies!

This genre spoof like horror is not for every one,as you need to look at if from a sarcastic point of view. It's witty and the dialog is funny if you're paying attention. I enjoy horror spoofs so I enjoyed this movie. The acting seemed over the top but that's part of the sarcasm that makes not just the plot but the corniness & fun to watch aspect. Yet I've seen better such as scary movie, and I would have enjoyed much more if the anticipation which grew for waiting so long for this title to be sent. NOT WORTH THE WAIT!!!!!! & for that reason 3 stars now a half star.
