Member Rating:
The Glenn Miller Story traces Miller's rise from pit-orchestra trombone player to leader of the most successful big band of his era. June Allyson is on hand as Miller's wife, Helen, who learns the value of patience when Glenn spends his wedding night jamming with Gene Krupa and Louis Armstrong. Given an officer's commission during World War II, Miller helms the swingin'est military band ever heard. In December of 1944, a plane carrying Miller disappears while flying over the English Channel. In memoriam, radio stations all over the world suspend their regular broadcasts to play such Miller standards as "Moonlight Serenade," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," and "Little Brown Jug." Many of Miller's contemporaries, including his first big-time boss, Ben Pollack, appear as themselves. YOU'VE REALLY GOT TO BE KIDDING! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS MOVIE IF BLOCKBUSTER COULD MANAGE TO SEND A DISC THAT WAS NOT BROKEN. I HAVE RECEIVED FIVE COPIES WITHIN THE LAST THREE WEEKS AND THEY HAVE ALL BE BROKEN IN HALF OR CRACKED. I HAVE NOTIFIED BLOCKBUSTER ON THREE DIFFERENT PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS AND I STILL HAVE RECEIVED ON THAT I COULD WATCH. THIS IS NOT GOOD SERVICE. I ALSO HAVE RECEIVED OVER 200 OTHER TITLES AND NONE HAVE BEEN CRACKED. THIS IS BAD QUALILITY CONTROL AT THE LAKE MARY, FLOIRDA WAREHOUSE.

I'm rating this movie before I even get it on DVD. I watched this twice before, and fell in love with that whole era. I grew up with my mom listening to all kinds of music, and my favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart. Watch this movie for the acting, the music, music history and just plain heart warming beauty. It has it all except perhaps if you're a total "action" type person. This is so well worth watching on many levels.

This is an excellent movie. A "must see" for any music lover. It is well made with great attention to detail. Both Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson do a superb job!
