This tense urban drama stars Nicolas Cage as Frank Pierce, a paramedic on the brink of physical and emotional collapse. Frank has worked for years in one of New York's most brutal neighborhoods, and the pressure of his job has taken its toll; plagued with self-doubt, he is haunted by the spirits of the people he couldn't save, and while he desperately wants to quit his job, outside forces won't let him walk away. Bringing Out the Dead brought director Martin Scorsese back to the streets of contemporary New York, one of his favorite locations, after three films set elsewhere: Kundun, Casino, and The Age of Innocence. The film also reunited Scorsese with screenwriter Paul Schrader, who scripted Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The Last Temptation of Christ. The supporting cast includes Patricia Arquette as the daughter of a heart attack victim that Frank has fallen in love with, and John Goodman and Ving Rhames as two of Frank's fellow drivers. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The only unfortunate part of this movie, is that 99% of the Amerocan people will not understand this movie. I love this film, and so do many others. The one thing we all have in common, we are Paramedics. This movie rings true on so many levels for us, yet there is a hint of humor, and plenty of sarcasm and cynicism. This film gets into the demons all of us EMS personnel have within us. I only wish more people, espicially the critics would see this movie for what it is, a no holds barred look at the world as only paramedics can view it.

I cannot believe how awful this movie was! It had no suspense and no plot at all. If you value your free time, please learn from my mistake and do NOT rent this film!

If you are a paramedic or even an emt, maybe a police officer or any public servant with lights and sirens on your vehicle who is stretched so thin the days began to smear together, this movie is for you. If not, you may not fully understand what it is to be in a rig on a triple shift withou sleeping for days. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, but you need to take other reviews into consideration. While I disagree that this movie was the worst movie Nicholas Cage has been in, consider that you may not understand it but it does not make it a bad movie. There are a lot of stars in this movie as well like Ving Rhames, Patricia Arquette and John Goodman to mention a few.
