Dark Planet is a typical warmed over Sci-Fi flick. There's really nothing new here. But a well done Sc-fi flick can still be fun, reguardless of it's unoriginality. Unfortunately this movie is a boring mess. First thing that struck me was the terrible special effects. At first glance this movie appears to be from the late 70's or early 80's. Then I find out it's actually from 1997! What a terrible low budget piece of junk. The creators did a horrible job. The story is pretty dry, The dialogue and characters are dull and cheezy. The space battles are uninspired. The ending is a lame and abrupt shameful conclusion right out of the hippy playbook. It's just an impossible movie to get into. Your are better off trying another movie if you want entertainment. If you have insomnia, this movie will cure it.

The special effects in this movie were "special" in the same way kids who rode the short bus were special. This ranks as one of the worst sci-fi movies I have ever seen. It's only redeeming feature could be the movie's such an easy target for criticism. If you have any friends that like to sit around like Mysterious Science Theater 3000 and rip on bad movies, than Dark Planet should definitely be put on your short list. Do not watch this without a sarcastic witty friend at your elbow.
