The Interview (1998)
Member Rating:
Craig Monahan made his directorial debut with this Australian police drama in which unemployed, poverty-stricken Eddie Rodney Fleming (Hugo Weaving), after losing his wife and home, is dragged from his apartment by police and subjected to a brutal interrogation. Eventually, it becomes terrifyingly apparent to Eddie that the police consider him a serial-murder suspect. Detective Sgt. John Steele (Tony Martin) and his assistant, Detective Sgt. Constable Wayne Prior (Aaron Jeffrey), make audiotapes of their efforts to get Fleming to confess. However, they are unaware that they themselves are being investigated and are being videotaped by an internal affairs unit. The question of Eddie's guilt or innocence is effectively concealed for most of the movie. Gordon Davie, Monahan's co-scripter and the film's technical consultant, was a police officer with the Victoria Crime Squad for 16 years. The Interview was shown at several 1997-1998 film festivals (London, Montreal, Melbourne). ~ Bhob Stewart, Rovi

If you enjoy a film with great writing and acting you will love this film. It is very skillfully developed so that the truth of the situation is very difficult to assertain until the very end of the film. Hugo Weaving is great. We rented it without knowing anything about it and it was a real find. Another excellent film from Australia.

You know, i rented this just for the heck, and after starting to watch it a few times, i almost retiuned it, but kept saying to myself that people gave it an excellent rating, so give it more time ! BOY AM I GLAD THAT I DID ! what an interesting movie and with SO little seemingly going on, they did an amazing job of gripping your attention.. Highly recommended for those that love th nuances of movie making, and brilliant concepts and outstanding acting.. dont miss it , kal

This was a pretty good movie. It had the potential to be a suck-fest but I found it to be interesting. I wish the plot took us down a different path. I was disappointed there, but in the end I was happy enough.
