Considered fairly gruesome in its day, the original 1958 The Fly looks like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood compared to this 1986 remake. Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis star as Seth Brundle, a self-involved research scientist, and Veronica Quaife, a science-magazine reporter. Inviting Veronica to his lab, Seth prepares to demonstrate his "telepod," which can theoretically transfer matter through space. As they grow closer over the next few weeks, she inadvertently goads Seth into experimenting with human beings rather than inanimate objects. Seth himself enters the telepod, preparing to transmit himself through the ether -- but he doesn't know that he is sharing the telepod with a tiny housefly. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

good but not great. Aside from a few bit parts, there are only 3 people in this film and it takes place primarily in Goldblum's lab. While the effects were good and the acting ok, overall the film felt "small". Worth a look if you're into this kind of stuff....... NOTE: Disk 1 is the movie.... Disk 2 is just extras like deletes scenes etc.

I absolutely loved this movie when it was released, I even own the movie. I would even love to see another remake.

Buried beneath all the gross visuals is an engrossing love story. Jeff Goldblum was perfectly cast as the neurotic hack scientist whose breakthrough invention works too well, and his early chemistry with his eventual bride, Geena Davis, is evident. "The Fly" requires some patience from horror fans, but for those strong enough to hang on through the lovey-dovey parts there is a decent payoff of guts and gore. I was disappointed with the unanswered question at the end (maybe it's on disc 2, I don't know).
