Autopsy (1973)

Autopsy (1973)
This strange Spanish film takes the director's obsession with death about as far as it can go. The movie intersperses graphic photography of a complete real autopsy with interviews, conducted in Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris, on people's attitudes towards their own deaths. The narrator/hero/interviewer muses on the subject of death and quotes extensively from great poets and playwrights such as Calderon de Barca, and Goethe. Though this movie has documentary aspects, it also has a storyline, and is intended as an entertainment feature. Hence, it falls into the "mondo cinema" genre which celebrates the gruesome and bizarre. ~ Clarke Fountain, Rovi
