Kurt Russell shines as Elvis in this made for tv docudrama. Despite being on a TV movie budget, the movie presents a realistic portrait of the King. Season Hubley as Priscilla and Shelly Winters as Elvis' mom Gladys also do a bang up job in capturing their characters. The only miscasting is whoever played Red West - he was much more rough and tumble than the actor portraying him. Kurt does the best job of replicating Elvis' speaking voice of anyone whose tried their hand at it, and comically, he also expertly "plays guitar" as BADLY as Elvis did in all his B-flicks! While Ronnie McDowell was the best known Elvis imitator in a vocal sense at the time, he's really pretty lame in retrospect.
