Tomas is a very busy fellow and is about to grow much, much busier. He has his current girlfriend in bed in one apartment, and his lady boss in bed in the next one, and is crossing from one to the other on a window ledge. Neither one has figured out what he is up to. His juggling act becomes much more complicated when, on one occasion from the ledge between the two apartments he spots his pretty new neighbor. Alfonso Cuaron has proclaimed an incredible diversity rarely seen in director's today! From the director that has given us Y Tu Mama Tambien, Children of Men and (surprise, surprise) a Harry Potter movie, is one of his earliest full-length releases; Solo Con Tu Parejo. Pareja sustains a magnificant pace filled with bountiful amounts of suspense and humor. This is a real gem for character development and grandiouse (yet intimate) narrative. The short films by Alfonso Cuaron (beautifully shot but lacking in character development) and his brother, Carlos (funny, well written, shot and edited) are the only things worth any time. The movie is a complete, unmitigated waste of time. If you want to see a Cuaron masterpiece, see Children of Men, where every shot and every sequence is full of purpose and meaning without being obvious, pretentious or overbearing. Alfonso's Y tu mama tambien is another good movie, a well structured, credible and funny exploration of adolescence through the eyes of two pot-smoking, sex-craving best friends who go on a road-trip adventure with an emotionally mature but needy woman in search of a made-up place, an intoxicating fantasy that ultimately leaves all three with a bad hangover.
