Synopsis of The Family That Dwelt Apart

Canadian Yvon Mallette directs and animates the eight-minute 1973 short The Family that Dwelt Apart. The film tells the humorous story of a family of fishermen and women living happily together on an island in apocryphal Barnetuck Bay, despite their relative isolation from the rest of society. When an unfortunate rumor hits the coast, suggesting that the islanders are in some distress, a number of landlocked locals decide to come to the family's rescue. Mallette adapted The Family that Dwelt Apart from a short story by Charlotte's Web author E.B. White, which originally appeared in a 1937 issue of The New Yorker. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
