Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam was first telecast April 3, 1988, over the HBO cable service. Based on the book of the same name, the program is devoted to poignant recitations of letters to and from American participants of the Vietnam war. The letters are heard over images culled from news footage, home movies and still photography, with contemporary music added to put things in the proper historical context.     This is a film to be watched together with "Last Letters Home", which focused on the Iraq war. The experiences of the military fighting in Vietnam, and the effect on the families and the nation, unfold as the letters from the Vietnam troops are read. Every American should watch this film.

    This is a very touching and heart felt movie. Some say that it’s the actors reading the letters that makes it but I think this movie would have the same impact if the letters was read by random people pick off the street. This movie captures the Vietnam Experience from those who was really there and not second hand clouded information from historians or teachers. For anyone to young to know about the Vietnam War or for those who wants a greater insight into the mind set of a soldier in Vietnam this is a MUST SEE MOVIE!
