The highest paid woman in America, Carmen Miranda, in her first acting role and Groucho Marx in his first film without the "Brothers". Playing Lionel Deveraux, he realizes he has no talent and decides to leave the act and, instead, be the agent of his partner and fiance of ten years (Miranda). Deveraux tries to look legitimate by pretending to have many clients but ends up botching Carmen's first gig by double booking her as both Carmen Novarro the hot Brazilian and Mademoiselle Fifi the French chanteuse. This movie would have been far more entertaining if they had left it like that. Instead, a romantic triangle subplot develops between Fifi, Cochran the nightclub manager and his secretary Gloria Jean. And we have to listen to a crooner named Andy Russell for some reason. This squeezes the life out of the movie because every minute they are on the screen Groucho and Carmen are not.

Fun Movie. Groucho has been a favorite of mine. My inlaw danced with Carmen after one of her shows in the East. She was a good charaacter here playing two people. I could see it again.
