Movies Similar to Face Value (1918)

Joan Darby (Mae Murray) is a waif who works as a washerwoman's drudge. She spends most of her time on the streets and among others she encounters is gang leader Louis Patrick Naguire (Casson Ferguson). After she leaves the washerwoman's and goes to work in the city, she encounters Naguire once again. He forces her to assist him in a hold up. She is caught but on the way to the reformatory, she jumps from the train. A rich young man, Bertram Van Twiller (Wheeler Oakman), finds her and brings her home. When his mother protests, he insists on taking her at "face value" -- a term he learned while he was out West. So Joan is given nice clothes and introduced to their friends. Naguire sneaks into a ball the Van Twillers are holding, planning to rob the guests. He finds Joan and makes her hide a necklace he is taken. Naturally, everyone suspects Joan when the theft is discovered, but Naguire is found to be the guilty party.
