    This is a smart, stylish and droll thriller that pops with the balloon-like colors of the early 70s. The plot is constantly suprising, ingeniously eliptical. "The Crook" caused a small sensation in art houses when it was released; then it inexplicably disappeared until just a few months ago. It's even better on the second viewing.
