A single father with terminal cancer prepares to face death, and struggles to ensure that his autistic son will be well cared for after he is gone in this emotionally-charged family drama starring Jet Li. David was only seven when his mother died. Now, at 22, he still doesn't seem to register that she is never coming home. His father Sam (Li) works at an aquarium. With the help of their benevolent neighbors, David has managed to give his son a good life. But now Sam is dying, and soon David will be all alone. As his condition rapidly deteriorates, Sam attempts to provide David with the tools and lessons he will need to function independently in society. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This is truly one of the most moving films I've ever seen. It gives you a rare glimpse into the life of a man who is dying and must teach his severely autistic son how to live without him. This movie will capture your heart and wring a few tears in the process.

This is a Chinese film and therefor it will be viewed with subtitles. Most of the story can be gained even without the subtitles because the actors do such a wonderful job. This isn't a movie that manipulates your emotions but rather gentle sweeps you into its embrace. Its primary purpose is to show the love of a father for his son and the challenge of making arrangements for after the father's impeding death. Challenges faced within the community are honestly dealt with but this isn't a social commentary. The films dedication to the ordinary heroes among parents fully encapsulates the movie's focus. The everyday joys, trials, and idiosyncrasies are shown as Dafu is prepared for life without his father.

This was one of the best films I have seen in a long time. The character of Dafu was spot on for his portrayal of a person with autism. It is subtitled, but the story was worth the effort.
