This was the first Masterpiece Theater production I ever saw (70's) and it remained in my psyche. I looked for it every once in a while once DVD's came out but figured I would just never see it again. I was thrilled to find it available. Wow was it well-done for 30 years ago! It's a wonderful story because it touches on love, life, and class in 1780's Cornwall society.

Is it really more than 30 years that this was on Masterpiece Theater? I loved this series! Certain episodes and lines of dialogue are burned into my memory. Anyone remember Demelza's seduction of Ross Poldark? "Take 'em off for a shilling?'" So sexy. Great writing and acting. Wonderful location.

My wife and I are big fans of English period dramas...maybe it's the accents..and we are both enjoying this one very much. Despite the fact that it is decades old, it is still good story-telling and a good ensemble of actors - many of whom will be familiar from other BBC series. I recommend Poldark (but don't be put off by the dreadful opening credit)
