Tai Chi expert William C.C. Chen leads viewers through this beginner's routine, designed to teach newcomers of all physical conditions and skill levels about the slow, meditative practice, walking viewers through an introduction to the artform, and explaining its many benefits - from relaxation to increased flexibility and stamina. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi
Grandmaster Chen is a student of Cheng Man-ch'ing and in this dvd performs a short Yang form of that lineage. Though Chen is a masterful Tai Chi player, this dvd does not do his skills justice. The form seems rushed. The change in camera angles, though artistic, are distracting if you are trying to learn from the dvd. Though the dvd is pretty--beautiful backdrops, nice lighting, pleasant music--I almost prefer the split screen segments of his old video tape for ease of learning. Seeing back and side at the same time (as in the video) is much more natural than trying to figure out a mirrored front view (as in this dvd). In short, I love the form and the way Grandmaster Chen does it. But I'm not enamored of this particular dvd.
