Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic tale of interplanetary adventure arrives on the big screen in this sweeping sci-fi spectacle marking the live-action debut of Oscar-winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, WALL-E). Civil War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitsch) was still haunted by the violence he witnessed on the battlefield when he inexplicably awoke on the distant planet of Barsoom (Mars). Upon learning that the inhabitants of Barsoom are bracing for a major conflict and that war appears inevitable, John finds out that love is a rare commodity on the Red Planet, and summons the courage to be the hero the Martians have been hoping for. Meanwhile, John falls under the spell of the enchanting Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), who struggles to suppress her compassion in a society known for its warlike ways. Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, and Mark Strong co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

the professional reviews tore this movie apart. the blog reviews told a different story. most the blog reviews liked the movie although they felt other of the same genre were better from just to much better. the most read movie failing had to do with the title. i felt the same. the movie should have had a more enticing title then a featuring john carter sub-title reminding people of the decades ago john carter franchise. i did not love this movie, it missed me in sophistication and intellectually. it was well made and apparently not a cheaply made movie. it did follow the old john carter but was more mature which may not say much to some. for me it was a 3. not a strong or weak 3 stars. a rental not a theater regardless.
Great scifi story and movie.....If you like big adventurous movies that give you a smile around every turn, this is it. For scifi fun and that, take you away from what your use to...this is it. And one can appreciat how George Lucas was influenced to create some of his space friends. Nothing new in the universe, so to speak.
