When a 12-year-old from Detroit moves to China with his mother and incurs the wrath of the class bully at his new school, he makes an unlikely ally in the form of his aging maintenance man, a kung fu master who teaches him the secrets to self-defense. Upon arriving at his new school, Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) develops a powerful crush on pretty classmate Mei Ying. The feeling is mutual, although the cultural divide between Dre and Mei Ying makes a friendship unlikely, and romance impossible. When cruel classmate and kung fu prodigy Cheng learns of Dre's feelings for Mei Ying, he harasses and humiliates the young outsider in front of the entire school. With no one to turn to for help, Dre confides his fears in kindly maintenance man Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), a kung fu master who knows that serenity and maturity -- not punches and power -- are the true keys to mastering the martial arts. As Dre prepares to face down his intimidating tormentor, he begins to realize that the real fight is just beginning. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The Karate Kid remake is a winner, the storyline/plot remains faithful to the original, but many other things were changed, Mr. Miyagi is now Mr. Han, Daniel became Dre and Karate is now Kung Fu. Acting from Smith and Chan and the fighting scenes are all improvements from the original. Not to mention beautiful scenery of China. Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith acted really well, some very emotional scenes. Overall, this was a pleasant surprise and fun to watch. Everybody applauded in the end. Both kids and adults will enjoy this new and improved remake. The best in the series!
Great movie - wasn't expecting too much and was really surprised by the fabulous acting and stunts by Jaden Smith. Saw a different side of Jackie Chan too as he showed emotions never seen before. Go see it! I feel it's as good as the original!
Chan and Jayden Deliver a powerful performance that is Deep, dark, emotional and inspirational. Lessons of respect, honor, loyality and staying true to your heart bring a realization that both student and teacher have to face their fears. I grew up watching the originals and the movie and the actors do great justice to the originals. As an instructor of the martial arts myself, I was well pleased at how the arts where portrayed. Even though the movie is over 2 hours long, I never felt bored. There is a lesson for everyone in this movie, both young and old alike.
