The Border (1982)
Member Rating:
Tom Jones director Tony Richardson might seem a curious choice to direct the contemporary western The Border, but he does his best to emulate Sam Peckinpah. Jack Nicholson stars as an El Paso border guard, saddled with avaricious wife Valerie Perrine. Hoping to stifle her nagging about money matters, Nicholson begins accepting payoffs to allow Mexican aliens to cross the border without interference. This leads to a relationship with a young Mexican mother Elpidia Carillo. Harvey Keitel and Warren Oates lend strong support to this atmospheric tale. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This movie is based on border patrol officer that helps young lady on the other side threw out the movie. The movie can be slow at times but the great acting by jack nicholson helps bring this movie a live! If your looking for fast pace movie this is not for you but if your into letting the storyline come to you this would be great choice.

This does seem at first glance to be a Peckinpah type of tale of a dying west but it actually is more about the inner conflict of a border patrolman who is dragged into and exposed to a corrupt and lucrative business and how he deals with it. It was refreshing to see Warren Oates in one of his later film roles and Jack Nicholson was brilliant as always, I do not regret renting this movie it was woth it.

Well acted drama of the temptations ICE officers face. Somebody has to pay for wifey's shopping sprees and poor Jack N., a guy with a conscience, is the one. Interesting too that the price of buying a baby in 1982 was $25,000. Fifty years earlier, in the mid-thirties, it was $3,000. Wonder what it is today...
