Nana (2005)
Member Rating:
Ai Yazawa's popular manga concerning two young women who couldn't be more different despite sharing the same name comes to the screen in this musical drama starring J-Pop icon Mika Nakashima and actress Aoi Miyazaki. Nana "Hachi" Komatsu (Miyazaki) has traveled with her boyfriend to Tokyo in hopes of starting a new life. Elsewhere in this neon-lit metropolis, ambitious punk rock beauty Nana Osaki (Nakashima) arrives determined to become the next big thing in the nocturnal world of rock & roll. On the surface it would seem that these two girls would have little in common, but as they share their dreams and set out in search of true happiness, the girls who couldn't be more different forge a friendship that will last a lifetime. Kentaro Otani directs a film featuring music by J-Rock megastar Hyde. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I loved it! Usually I'm not into sappy romance friendship movies like this, but I adored this one! It's realistic and just so cute. It's amazing how two opposites can come together and battle life's challenges together. Beautiful movie; I couldn't leave the room! I'm looking into buying this now =)

this goes without saying, but the manga and the anime was better. the movie is the first half of the series mashed up into one. All that aside, I like it! if you are a fan of nana and or romantic movies you will enjoy it too.

This movie isn't your generic chick flick friendship shojo type movie. it deserves all 5 stars in my opinion. the characters face the same relationship issues as any other young women but more interesting then that of the people you or i know in person. The storyline and flashbacks of NANA'S love life and where she is now shows her strength while vulnerabilities are still present. Her room mate NANA is able to learn greatly from her and they build a bond through the break ups, heart breaks, and come backs that are entirely different than what any viewer would expect. It ends happily but it seemed to me that there was more to come. But considering that there are multiple volumes of manga that go to it, i can understand, plus a friend of mine, who i believe to be well informed, told me that they stopped there because the author was sick. i sure hope they make another movie because this one was plane awesome! :D
