Kiwi Magic (2003)
Member Rating:
The locale is New Zealand, a landscape rife with breathtaking landscapes, idiosyncratic residents and one of the planet's most unusual indigenous cultures. Kiwi Magic provides a exhaustive exploration of this special country, via a tour of its many locales and facets; highlights include a journey to the mountain Aoraki Mount Cook, footage of sea kayaking around glaciers; a visit with the rare and precious Kiwi bird on Stewart Island; and a trip to the geysers, sulphur craters and mud pools of Rotorua. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

I was hoping for a comprehensive, one-hour traveloque of New Zealand, and what I could expect there for a vacation this summer. What I got, however, was a lot of sensation, thrill-seeking scenes of people bungee jumping and performing other adventure sports. That's fine, as far as it goes, and is certainly something you can do in New Zealand. But way too much was left out, and what was included, other than the spectacular Milford Sound, was short-shrifted or just not important. Nothing on the glow-worm caves, not a word about the beautiful northernmost part of the country; in fact, there wasn't much focus at all on the North Island. In the end, I came away knowing nothing more about the country than the limited knowledge I already had. In a word, this documentary is superficial.

Although it helped in our desire to visit New Zealand, the DVD did not contain enough travel-interest information and not nearly enough landscape video. We'd love to see a blu-ray 2 hour+ dvd of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit there.

The CD has a very visable crack from the outer edge to the center of the CD. Took it to a store. They said nothing could be done except to write this. Do not know if it is good or not.
