The French version offered more suspense and better insight into the mind of the antagonist. It's amazing how similar some of the scenes are between the two, although I found the ending in the French version superior. Although it left you wanting for a little more, which the American version tried to deliver, the American version fell short by being a little hokey and too unbelievable by attempting to satisfy American cravings for happing endings. The American version did a better job of explaining the relationship between the protagonist and his second girlfriend, the French version did a better job of detailing the family of the antagonist, especially the strained relationship with his wife and the odd relationship with his daughter. If you're looking for high suspense and mystery you should probably skip this movie. If you don't mind a sometimes slow, and occasionally intriguing introspective of the mind of a sociopath, then rent the French first, then watch the American versio

This movie has quite an interesting look at the disturbing side of a twisted personality and how an incident can impact the lives of others.

Great movie!! I love that it was filmed in Washington State. It is an old time favorate. They don't make movies like this one very often.
