I adore Glenda Jackson but I'm surprised she won an Oscar for this role. The movie's a dated mess that doesn't seem to try too hard to make either character (or the situation they wedge themselves in) likeable. It can't decide whether it wants to be a comedy or take itself too seriously; no, it doesn't have to be either...but it certainly does have an identity crisis that makes it hard to watch after a while. About halfway through it begins meandering and never finds its way back home. If what you're looking for is a fine romantic comedy featuring Jackson, check out either "House Calls" or "Hopscotch", both with Walter Matthau. Their chemistry is superior to her pairing with George Segal in this film. "Hopscotch" is especially delightful but features Matthau more than Jackson.

Wow. Glenda Jackson won an Oscar for this fluffy movie (her second of two), though this was another case of "Give her an Oscar because she's done much better things in other movies" rather than for the merit of this specific performance. The movie and its performances are third-rate Neil Simon. For a romantic comedy, it's neither romantic nor comedic. Both lead characters are amazingly uncharming. I wanted to slap both of them. They deserved each other, and yet I was pleased that the ending was not especially happy for either. Ick. I saw this film when it was out in the theaters, but I guess I'd packed the memory away in a far away spot in my brain. That's where it's going again.

Not a new plot... guess it was a romantic comedy. Some funny parts; however, it was somewhat boring. Frustrating to see the lenghts people will go to have an affair.
