Formed in 1969, Steeleye Span quickly rose to a prominent position within the folk-rock circuit, and went on to record over a dozen critically acclaimed albums throughout the 70's and 80's. This anniversary special features the band performing live renditions of their greatest hits, some of which include "Sailor's Bonnet," "Black Jack Davy," "The Fox," "Shaking of the Sheets," "(Somebody's) Following Me," "Thomas the Rhymer," and "All Around My Hat."

This was an absolutely fantastic, dynamic band throughout the 1970's. Unfortunately, this was filmed around 1990. Maddy Prior could still sing, and Peter Knight could still play violin, but Tim Hart isn't there, and in general, the fire in the belly seems weaker. Probably 3/4 of the songs could have been replaced with much stronger earlier ones from their canon. So, if you have heard Steeleye Span but never got to see them, definitely rent this film. If you were fortunate enough to see them in their prime, you might enjoy reliving some memories, but you may find this film to be disappointing.
