I disagree with the other two reviewers. I took my 7 year old daughter to it and she absolutely loved it. There were a couple of times during the movie that she said it was scary, but overall, she enjoyed it. As we were watching, I wished my two 12 year olds and my thirteen year old were with us. They would have really enjoyed the "fantasy" aspect of it all. The lead character wasn't the greatest actor, but he did fine. I don't forsee great awards coming to the film, but it definitely was fun to watch...not a chance!!

As someone who read the book in their teenage years, this movie was very disappointing. The entire concept of the family, as well as family characters was left out. They added scenes that felt fake, and left out some of the most important concepts in the story. Someone who has not read the book might enjoy some of the special effects.

Not unlike other reviewers I found the movie rather....bland. It never quite pulls you into the plot. I didn't connect with any of the characters and for those of us who haven't read the books, it seemed to me the plot was incredibly bland.
