I was hoping for something a little traditional; maybe medieval costumes and setting...but this is more of a modern interpretation...which may be cool if you've seen this opera a bunch of times done traditionally and are looking for a different perspective...but I've never seen The Ring and was hoping to see something that this DVD does not have.

I hadn't seen Jonathan B's comments before watching the Das Rheingold offering. My thoughts on viewing it were, "what a mess. Anyone who wasn't familiar with this opera would have no idea of what was going on." Jonathan, my condolences. I haven't seen the other 3 operas in this ring cycle, as they have suddenly become unavailable. I understand that each was undertaken by different directors and, hence, may have something more to offer.
