If you were a Popeye fan as a kid, you will love this. These 1930's cartoons stand up easily to any of today's cartoons in laughability quotient. The watercolor backdrops (although black and white) combined with the moving characters' images have a wonderful, almost 3-D effect. What really makes Popeye cartoons so enjoyable is that the good guy always wins by beating up the bad guy. But, it is so clownish and comical that you never have any sense of violence. It's just laugh-out-loud funny. The characters' voices (and muttered ad-libs) are hysterical. Legendary for her squeeky-mouse voice, actress Mae Questel performed as "Olive Oly" (in Popeye cartoons) from 1930s to 1960s. She was also known world-wilde as the voice of popular animated "Betty Boop" from 1930s to 1988. Her last role was live-action as Aunt Bethany in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" (1989). Questel passed in 1998. Fans will also love "Bluto", "Sweet Pea", and "Whimpy" here of course.
