Executive producer Mick Garris, the driving force behind the Masters of Horror series on Showtime, writes and directs this episode, Chocolate. Garris is best known for directing several Stephen King adaptations, including the made-for-TV versions of The Stand and The Shining, but here he is working from his own short story. Henry Thomas stars as Jamie, a repressed, recently divorced lab technician. At work in the lab with his aging rocker co-worker, Wally (Matt Frewer), Jamie designs artificial flavorings to simulate the foods he craves, but won't allow himself to eat. One night, he has what seems to be a powerful hallucination, in which he tastes expensive fine chocolate. He goes to see Wally's band play, and seems to temporarily lose his hearing. While driving home, he has a vivid visual episode that almost results in a car wreck. He picks up a girl (Leah Graham) at the supermarket, and they really hit it off, but he has another episode at the most inopportune time, ruining their budding romance. As these episodes increase in their frequency and duration, Jamie begins to realize that he's sharing the experiences of Catherine (Lucie Laurier), a beautiful young woman who lives in another city. Jamie believes there must be a reason for his connection to Catherine, and after witnessing a particularly violent and disturbing scene, he decides to track her down. ~ Josh Ralske, Rovi

Premise for the plot is a knock off of an idea that has been done before a number of times and there is no new ground covered that makes it worth redoing here. Also the main character's motivation makes no logical sense...so again it feels like one of those horror movies where you keep asking how can they be so stupid? Unfortunately the pacing of the episode is so slow even at only an hour in length you will find yourself wondering when the story is actually going to get moving. So you won't have enough interest to ask why the main character's motivation makes no sense. Another weak effort from the series. Have to agree with the other review that compares this series to other bad horror series from the 80's and 90's.

So far Ive seen two of them and the pattern is not very promising. Its basically at the level of horror stuff you would see on TV pre-90s but with more gore allowed. Besides the whole cheesy style of the series and poor casting, the main problem with the series, are the really farfetched plots that dont work. This episode takes one idea thats lame and goes nowhere with it. It starts off better than Cig Burns, the actor in the main role is better. However the side threads, the 45 yr old rocker lab worker and the artist are pathetic plus the main plot just fizzles. It would have been so easy to come up with passable, dead serious horror episodes by any mediocre director and writer combo which makes the poor level of quality of the stuff here in this post 90s era on a cable channel inexcusable.
